Council tax changes

Council Tax changes from April 2014 – March 2015

Council Tax Benefit ended on 1 April 2013 as part of the government’s wider programme of welfare reform. It was replaced by a new local scheme called Council Tax Support (CTS). Government funding for this scheme is a lot less so now everyone has to make a contribution towards their council tax bill.

Anyone under the eligible pension age who is liable to pay Council Tax will have to pay at least 15 per cent of their Council Tax bill in the financial year 2014/2015.

Couples who are both pensionable age and single people also of pensionable age are protected from these changes.

If you are struggling to pay your Council Tax, please contact the London Borough of Waltham Forest as soon as possible on 020 8496 3000.
